Movie Reviews for June 2008

I) You Dont Mess With The Zohan
(*) (Thumbs side-ways)

1) PROS:
A) I was right, this has pretty much the same humor of ANY other Adam Sandler movie (but, only you will decide for yourself if that’s good or bad)
B) The Zohan, is probably the most unique & different Adam Sandler character (given he only plays the "goofy average guy who tries to be calm" or "the goofy dumb guy who screams a lot").
C) Dave Mathews as a red-neck villain, stole the show; the best character in the entire movie. Sadly he wasn’t in it enough.

2) CONS:
A) Adam Sandler is trying to gain a audience over homophobic-slurs, & it’s getting old.
B) This movie had a matter of four-repeated jokes. First being the Zohan's over-use of Humus (which he stole from "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" with the Windex). Second being the Israeli soda-pop (which wasn’t rally a "joke" I guess... but it kept appearing with them acting silly about it... whatever). Third being his big "bush". Fourth was him having sex with old ladies.
C) This movie tried to make its claim-to-fame with an over-use of cameos... which isn’t enough for a movie to be recognized, remembered, & funny.

OVER-ALL: see it once, good-enough.

II) Kung Fu Panda
(**) (Thumbs Up)

1) PROS:
A) Perfect character for Jack Black.
B) Better than Shrek (same Company). Better than a lot (if not most) Pixar movies.
C) Opening scene is the best scene.

2) CONS:
A) Jackie Chan did not have enough talking parts, I didn’t even know it was him until the credits.
B) Angelina Jolie's voice is not distinct enough to be recognized in an animated movie.
C) This movie could've used one more fight scene at least.

OVER-ALL: See it more than once. If you have kids, own it.

III) The Incredible Hulk
(**) (Thumbs Up) (Gold)

1) PROS:
A) Better than the 2003 HULK by-a-long-shot (Director, Actors, Writers, an actual Villain)
B) Better than a lot of other Marvel movies (Daredevil, Electra, Fantastic 4 (I&II).
C) Plot and sequences in it are better for a comic book movie; where as the 2003 one, tried to be too over-the-top intelligent and cerebral for a superhero movie.

2) CONS:
A) Not enough Hulk. Too much Bruce Banner.
B) TOO MANY Cheesy references to the Hulk's & the Abomination's name.
C) Tim Blake Nelson was VERY lame & cheesy.

OVER-ALL: Great movie to see in theaters. Perhaps a own. Definitely a rent.

IV) The Love Guru
(**) (Thumbs Up) (Silver)

1) PROS:
A) Exact humor from Austin Powers (which is GREAT)
B) Nice, cool, new character for Mike Myers, & he was good @ it.
C) Great cameos. Steven Colbert was the best cameo, & perhaps almost stole the movie.

2) CONS:
A) Sadly, the cameos are only at the very beginning & end. (we also could've used more).
B) Could've used a little more Ben Kingsley. & Justin Timberlake's parts are most already revealed (via Trailers & TV Spots)
C) More importantly (like I've said before), Mike Myers should've just done Austin Powers 4.

OVER-ALL: The next time I see Myers, I want it to be Austin Powers 4)

V) Get Smart
(**) (Thumbs Up) (Bronze)

1) PROS:
A) Steve Carrel's alright (as always)
B) Steve Carrel & Alan Arkin have great chemistry.
C) Bill Murry's cameo is the funniest part in the movie. (even if its too short, & only once)

2) CONS:
A) Too much was shown in the Trailers & TV Spots (so you can see a lot coming)
B) Patrick Warburton (Joe from Family Guy, and Putty from Seinfeld) wasn't in it enough, & he would've been perfect for this movie if he would've been in it more.
C) This movie could've used more comedians & characters in it.

OVER-ALL: Worth seeing again, someday.

BEST MOVIE OF THE MONTH: The Incredible Hulk.

(I didn’t see The Happening; & I wont be seeing WALL.E or WANTED)
