The Last Airbender - teaser

Based on the recent nickelodeon cartoon "Avatar: The Last Airbender"

Written & Directed by M. Night Shyamalan
I don't personally dislike him, but audiences and critics have been disappointed him for some time now. This also doesn't seem like his kind of movie. Oh well, I guess we can expect a twist in the end though.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon - trailer

I hope these movies don't win at the MTV Movie Awards every year. The sooner this franchise ends the better. Maybe they should just release 2 a year. GO AWAY!

Movie Reviews for May 2009

X-Men Origins: Wolverine
*

I really loved X2: X-Men United (2003), and I liked the original X-Men (2000), and I even thought X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) was alright (even if it was disappointing in too many parts). But I have to say that I am not impressed, or even pleased with the Wolverine movie. It was not very well paced, the characters weren't that well written. Now, I know the entire point of me doing these movie reviews is to 'get into it'... but, honestly, I don't have much to say, except this is the worst X-Men movie, a so-so superhero movie, and a slightly below average movie. I thought the writing just wasn't very satisfying. I did however enjoy the camera angles and backgrounds, and I thought overall the depiction of Wolverine's origin wasn't too bad. I felt that certain parts were too lame and cheesy. The one character that many fanboys were interested in, was Wade Wilson / Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds). All the hype and anticipation that went into the role and presence of Deadpool in this movie was easily in vain in the end. Reynolds was only in it for about less than 10 minutes, and the adaptation of Deadpool was compltetely poor; In his final parts he reminded me more of The Mummy then the comic book character. This film was worth a viewing, when it's below $5, maybe I'll think of adding it to my X-Men DVD collection.

Star Trek
***

I am not even a fan of Star Trek... or should I say "I wasn't"... that is how powerful this movie is. The writing, the directing, the acting, the special effects, everything was amazing. This is the Star Trek film that has been needed for a long time. I can see (and have heard) how certain bits and pieces of this film could rub hard-core Trekkies the wrong way, but I'm glad that it is still being excepted in a wide range. Usually when I see a film I am always able to figure out who is my favorite character, but for this it's extremely difficult; Kirk, Spock, Bones, Scotty, all were excellent. The only flaw with the new Star Trek film, was that they didn't film it with a second and third at the same time, but at least two sequels have been announced, and I can't wait. I could only hope (along with many others) that every summer can have a blockbuster this good.

Angels & Demons
**

When I walked out of The Da Vinci Code in May 2006, all I could say was "Well, at least there is only one more month until Superman Returns comes out...", and I was lucky enough this time to be able to say "Well, at least there is only one more week until Terminator Salvation comes out..."; I just don't like these films. It has nothing to do with a religious preference, but I just find them very boring. I was so close to liking Angels & Demons; only to be pissed at the very end. I wont give anything away, but let me just say that in the last 10 minutes they make a certain character appear a certain way, and I really liked it and thought it fit; but then in the last 5 minutes they turned it around and completely ruined that certain character... I'll have to include a spoiler alert in a video review of this soon. I hope there will not be anymore of these books to make into movies, cause I honestly can't take the dull story-telling anymore.

Terminator Salvation
***

Now, before I start out let me just say I didn't dislike Terminator 3: Rise of The Machines (2003), but it was the worst one, and it was a little questionable in certain parts. The first Terminator (1984) was great, but I'm afraid that I (along with the majority of movie goers, fans, and critics) have always thought that Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) was the best one. Yes, you heard that right, "was" the best one. I am extremely satisfied and impressed with Salvation. I think it fixes the stains, scars (whatever you want to call them) that were caused in T3; it surpasses T1 as far as I'm concerned; and (alright, I wont take my excitement too far) at least ties with T2 in many ways. But T4 has proved a lot more as it's own movie as well. Christian Bale as John Connor gives us the dominant action hero that summer movies need. Sam Worthington as Marcus Wright is a genius addition to the already established cast of characters. Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese is well done. And even the scenes Helena Bonham Carter delivers shows once again that she has done her acting the way she does it best (creepy). Over all, this film has helped me get over the fact of moving on since last year and having a summer without Batman or Indiana Jones.

Enjoy your summer everyone. I'll keep the reviews coming.
